As of late, we’ve been fielding a lot of questions about trends in exterior remodeling — specifically regarding roofing and siding. Because of this, we decided to share these trends here on our blog to help Dane County homeowners be in-the-know about the popular colors, textures, technologies, and materials they have to choose from.
In this article, we’re covering seven of the top siding trends for fall 2025, as well as one potential emerging trend. If you’re looking to have your siding replaced, we hope this information proves helpful.
Before we begin, here is a list of all the articles we’ve written recently about exterior remodeling trends …

Let’s dive into the top siding trends for fall 2025!
1. COLOR PALETTES ARE GOING BOLD
Although colors like shades of white, beige and gray are still super popular, there is a growing trend toward bold color. In our article on home siding color trends, we talk about understanding when a bold siding color choice can be beneficial, and when you might want to avoid it.
The bold colors that have been trending lately are deeper shades of reds, blues, yellows and greens.
2. MIXED MATERIALS
Mixed materials is not a new concept. That said, the amount of residential homes (as well as apartment buildings) using this design technique continues to be on the rise.
One of the things we like to work on with Madison homeowners is choosing mixed materials that complement each other while remaining true to a homeowner’s vision.
Great options for mixed materials include: vinyl, wood, metal, stone, fiber cement, & brick. Plus, a category like vinyl can also provide a homeowner with different textures and shapes. For instance, you can mix traditional horizontal vinyl siding with vertical board and batten, or horizontal vinyl siding with a vinyl shingle style, as pictured here.
3. THE SKY’S THE LIMIT WITH VERTICAL APPLICATION
Speaking of board and batten, which typically used as a vertical style of siding, we’re seeing a lot of Madison and Dane County homeowners request this style. Some choose to have board and batten on their entire home, while others prefer to use it as a part of a mixed-materials (or mixed style) approach.
We’re big fans of Certainteed’s board and batten vinyl siding because it provides amazing strength, durability and performance — making it the perfect choice for the harsh weather we can experience here in Wisconsin. In fact, all of the images in this article are Certainteed products.
4. VIRTUAL VISUALIZATION TOOLS
For years, our design team has been helping homeowners see new siding options on their home BEFORE any work begins. We use Hover, which is a great, robust tool that can show homeowners options like siding color, style, texture, etc. If this sounds like fun to you (and it is), feel free to get in touch with us and we’ll stop buy to virtually try out some siding options on the virtual version of your home!

5. TOUGH, FIRE-RESILIENT MATERIALS
Fire-resilient vinyl siding, like Certainteed’s Urban Reserve style brings peace of mind — not to mention safety — to a residential home.
The most sought-after styles also feature the look of natural materials, like wood, for enhanced curb appeal. James Hardie cement board siding is an excellent example of this. Made from cement, sand, water and fiberglass matting, their siding products have the look of wood, while remaining tough and fire-resistant.
6. INSULATED VINYL SIDING
Today’s insulated vinyl, like CertainTeed’s CedarBoards insulated siding line, offers an excellent choice for homeowners looking for energy-efficient, low maintenance, and eco-friendly siding.
Well-insulated vinyl siding can greatly increase the overall thermal performance of your home, increasing R-values from 0.61 to up to between 2.0 and 3.0. Other benefits of Certainteed’s insulated siding is the fact that it minimizes outside noise, and is also treated to be fire-retardant and repel insects.
7. SHINGLE-STYLE VINYL SIDING
There is something amazing about the look of shingle-style siding, and the fact that this aesthetic — with an authentic wood appearance — can be attained with all of the benefits of vinyl, including higher durability and lower maintenance than wood, makes this siding appealing to homeowners.
With a look that’s sometimes referred to as craftsman or coastal-style, this type of siding can definitely stand out, even if it’s in a more traditional color.
8. THE BEGINNING SIGNS OF SMART SIDING
Similar to the smart roof technology trend that we mentioned in our article on top roofing trends, we’re starting to see some movement with “smart siding,” which is essentially a third-party integration that incorporates sensors that monitor things like moisture level, temperature fluctuations, and even structural movement. It will be interesting to see if this gains traction, and if the siding vendors we work with start to offer tech-forward smart siding options in the future.
