The Benefits of Working with a GAF Master Elite Certified Roofing Contractor

Roof Contractor GAF Master Elite Certified ContractorIf you think your roof is in need of repair or replacement, it’s a good idea to get educated about the importance of using a certified roofing contractor in the Madison area, as well as the brands your potential roofing contractor typically uses. This article touches upon both of these topics.

First, just know that there are many brands to consider, and as you might imagine they are not created equal — which is why we recommend going with a brand that offers excellent products, along with an outstanding warranty.

WHAT WE RECOMMEND

At Legacy Exteriors, we typically install GAF roofing materials, as they are the number one brand of shingles makers in the country. The quality of GAF shingles is remarkable, which is why they come with such solid warranties.

Additionally, you’ll want to make sure you hire a roofing contractor that is GAF certified …

WHAT IS GAF MASTER ELITE® CERTIFICATION?

In a nutshell, it’s a way of ensuring your roofing contractor is “leveled up,” as GAF Master Elite contractors are able to provide GAF’s strongest warranties, which include the Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty (on qualifying roofing systems). This warranty offers coverage against manufacturing defects in the GAF products used, as well as up to 30 years of misapplication coverage.

To achieve this certification, a roof contractor must meet certain criteria, including being insured and licensed in states where they operate (if required). There are also performance expectations that must be satisfied, and GAF also considers factors such as years of roofing experience, credit rating — and overall standing with the Better Business Bureau. So, in essence, GAF is helping homeowners choose experienced, honest, and reliable roof contractors.

WHAT IS THE GOLDEN PLEDGE® LIMITED WARRANTY

Here’s what GAF has to say about the Golden Pledge limited warranty …
“This warranty covers certain GAF roofing products installed on your roof (the “GAF Products”) including GAF Asphaltic Shingles, GAF Ridge Cap Shingles, GAF Starter Strip Shingles, GAF Leak Barrier Products, GAF Roof Deck Protection Products, GAF Cobra® Attic Ventilation Products, GAF Master Flow® Attic Exhaust Ventilation Products, and GAF Master Flow™ Pivot™ Pipe Boot Flashing, in the unlikely event that they contain a manufacturing defect. Misapplication of your GAF Products and flashings at valleys, dormers, chimneys, and plumbing vents (the “Covered Flashings”) is also covered.

TIPS FOR FINDING A DEPENDABLE LOCAL ROOFER

  1. Get referrals: whether it’s from trusted friends, family or neighbors, a referral is a great starting place to find a roof contractor that is both dependable and LOCAL. We stress your contractor being local because sometimes an out-of-town contractor will give the impression of being local online — or canvas your neighborhood after hail or storm damage — when they are, in actuality, not a neighborhood business. This is important, because if you ever have an issue, or need warranty coverage, you’ll want that contractor to be local.
  2. Do some homework: take a look at the roofing contractor on BBB.com, and also check their Google Business rating. These are two indicators of how happy previous clients are with the contractor.
  3. Make sure your roofer is certified by GAF: although we discussed this above, it’s worth mentioning again. Someone who is GAF certified — especially GAF Master Elite Certified — has already been vetted by GAF, giving you peace of mind that the roofing company you choose is top notch.
  4. Think about some “interview” questions: or, check out the list of questions GAF suggests you ask your potential roofing company here. It may feel a bit daunting to ask a handful of questions before you hire someone, but it’s a lot less daunting than hiring the wrong company for your asphalt roof replacement.
